Tips on Manga comic strip drawings??? I want to know everything on how the pros do it!?
Question by Lucky: Tips on Manga comic strip drawings??? I want to know everything on how the pros do it!?
so I was reading a special edition of the manga Death Note called How to Read (#13). There's a section showing Obata sketching out the thumbnails for the manga. But that's not the point.
What I want to know is:
-what pencil type(s) do the pros use to sketch out the comics?
how big or what are the dimensions of the pages that they actually sketch the original comic on?
what type of ink is used to color in the art?
-where can I buy this ink?
-how much are they?
-if the ink is expensive, what is a good alternative?
what kind of paper is used to sketch the drawings on? Copy paper? Sketchbook? Other?
QUESTIONS WITH A MEANS that they are the most important questions i want answered.
Also please feel free to give me more tips, hints, and things to know. I'd appreciate it. Also...I don't know how to rate the best answer XD. So If u want me to pick u as the best, tell me how please!

Ink is ink, as there is nothing special about it. The drawings are done on Bristol Board a kind of art board (and not just mere paper)

COSPLAY QUESTIONS GO HERE malindachan.deviantart.com Tobi: 13mmjackel Deidara:Malindachan So, Malindachan and myself are cosplaying as Deidara and Tobi. We are both fans of this KICK ASS artist thats on deviantart.com, Mikutashi. We decided to reenact one of her little four panel comics. Thus this was born. All credit for the original art and inspiration goes to her. BTW: My AMV productions is trigger happy, my cosplaying group is Epic win here where I live, just so you dont get confused. This was purely fan made and has nothing to do with the music artist or the creator of Naruto (Kishimoto), all music, art and characters are (c) to their respective creators. This is Mikutashis' original comic, where we got our idea mikutashi.deviantart.com its also the pic in the ending credits. BTW, My Deidara -senpai made a comic check it out! malindachan.deviantart.com THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FAVES AND COMMENTS!

Pencil, just use normal #2 pencil, works for me.
Just normal 8 1/2 by 11
You can just use a fine point sharpie for the inking
Uh, anywhere?
Not very expensive at all
What’s best is the kind of tough paper, it’s a little thicker than normal printer paper or sketch paper. You can go to any hobby store really and buy a pad especially made for drawing manga on, even comes with the stencils for speech bubbles and borders!!!
Hmm. . . Tips. . . Well, if you don’t use a layout (The thing with the circles and other 3-D shapes that you use to get your idea of how the body of the character is going to look) start using it. I’ve found it much easier to use than just free-handing stuff.
Don’t flip out man, if your art is okay and you’re words are semi-ledgible and your story is good, you don’t need to worry at all. I just recently started my own Manga too, it’s not as easy as it looks, believe me.
