Question by graydaze74: What is the best way to locate artwork you have seen only once?
I attended a comic book convention in Philadelphia, PA in 1996 (I think). I saw one of the coolest pictures ever. It was the back of a young girl, and her legs were in the water. In the reed/seaweed, there was something reaching up to grab her leg. It was one of the creepiest things I have ever seen. I seem to recall it being full of blue and purple tones. It was strikingly serene looking except for that arm. Being a starving art student I was unable to purchase it, and have regreted it ever since. I am unable to remember if it was a print or an original piece of art.

Since then, I have tried all sorts of searches to find it on the internet, but to no avail. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on narrowing down my search for better results, or if anyone out there has actually seen this picture. I do not remember the name of the piece or the artist, but it has haunted me for over ten years, and I would love to find out more about it.

Answer by Terri H.
Sounds like something from the magazine Heavy Metal. You may want to contact them at http://www.heavymetal.com/ and see if they can help you.

Good luck!

Question by Alrestor: Do people REALLY judge artwork by its ethnicity and publisher? (comic/manga related)?
Really do they actually look at the name of who made said book and see if its an asian name or not and automanicly say its crap without skiming the book first? And also see what its published by?

Because my goal (like many others) is to get my manga out in stores, and truly I really think I have a great story. Its very original from all the other comics, infact to original I dont think I should even make it into a comic (but rather something else). And it is in no way the typical "I like to copy the other asian's art style" comic. But its still influenced (not trying to give away my style).

But I'm not going to even try if no one will give it a shot just because Im not asian (even though the art work and story is outstanding). To me anyways...but I really think millions will enjoy it.
When I mean,"Im not going to try",Its not like I have absolutely no work done at all.Not at all...I mean I wont even try publishing it.
@ hanzo: I never said my comic is made in Japan.Nor do I even have any comic published. And to restate the meaning of manga, its the same word for the english word comic.Just with a asian style of drawing.

Best answer:

Answer by Hanzo
Your "manga" is just a comic. If its manga then that means its made in Japan. Which I highly doubt it is. It may be the style of a manga, but its still a comic. To answer your question only idiots would judge the ethnicity of characters. You have to have talent and superior art skills.

Question by Lucky: Tips on Manga comic strip drawings??? I want to know everything on how the pros do it!?
so I was reading a special edition of the manga Death Note called How to Read (#13). There's a section showing Obata sketching out the thumbnails for the manga. But that's not the point.

What I want to know is:

-what pencil type(s) do the pros use to sketch out the comics?
how big or what are the dimensions of the pages that they actually sketch the original comic on?
what type of ink is used to color in the art?
-where can I buy this ink?
-how much are they?
-if the ink is expensive, what is a good alternative?
what kind of paper is used to sketch the drawings on? Copy paper? Sketchbook? Other?

QUESTIONS WITH A  MEANS that they are the most important questions i want answered.

Also please feel free to give me more tips, hints, and things to know. I'd appreciate it. Also...I don't know how to rate the best answer XD. So If u want me to pick u as the best, tell me how please!

Best answer:

Answer by Stephen K
Ink is ink, as there is nothing special about it. The drawings are done on Bristol Board a kind of art board (and not just mere paper)

COSPLAY QUESTIONS GO HERE malindachan.deviantart.com Tobi: 13mmjackel Deidara:Malindachan So, Malindachan and myself are cosplaying as Deidara and Tobi. We are both fans of this KICK ASS artist thats on deviantart.com, Mikutashi. We decided to reenact one of her little four panel comics. Thus this was born. All credit for the original art and inspiration goes to her. BTW: My AMV productions is trigger happy, my cosplaying group is Epic win here where I live, just so you dont get confused. This was purely fan made and has nothing to do with the music artist or the creator of Naruto (Kishimoto), all music, art and characters are (c) to their respective creators. This is Mikutashis' original comic, where we got our idea mikutashi.deviantart.com its also the pic in the ending credits. BTW, My Deidara -senpai made a comic check it out! malindachan.deviantart.com THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE FAVES AND COMMENTS!

I read the original Gen 13 comics. I liked the premise of the series. I would like to find another comic to start reading that has some of the same elements. Tragic past (at least for some members), good art, good storytelling, a team, etc.

Any recommendations?
Also, I am looking for a relatively new series so that Idon't have to hunt for a ton of back issues.

Best answer:

Answer by omnipwn
The Authority. It is also from WildStorm, my favorite comic team. Some unique characters and great art. Has some good dark humor as well. That is what I can recommend if you haven't already checked it out.

Best answer:

Answer by Steve C
Simple steps first.

Have you tried posting some examples on www.deviantart.com ? You'd be surprised just how many have been scouted or even just approached by individuals for single pieces.

The main thing is get the drawings out there with his name. Join groups online and network. There will always be someone who knows another who can help. You just need to do your part and reach them.

I've been working on a comic for about a year now, but I realize that most, if not all of my characters look and act like characters in other media. Whenever I show my work to other people, they always say, "Oh, he's just like ______," or "She looks like _____."

Answer by Emma
Depends if you're planning to publish your comic. If not, keep them. If so, make small changes to them (ie hair color, attributes, catch phrases, etc.).

Question by 2wingo: Comic Book character knowledge challenge. Are you worthy?
I have come to separate the truly devote from the fair whether fans. Here is the quiz:

1.) What is the spell that Jason Blood recites to become Etrigan the Demon?

2.) In what orginal issue of The X-Men did they ask Spiderman to join their ranks?

3.) What powers Iron Man's armor?

4.) How many sister races does humanity have in the Marvel Universe?

5.) What are the 12 rules of the original Comics Code? Which ones were repeled?

6.) In what issue of the Fantastic Four did the Miracle Man first appear?

7.) What was the name of the ninja that taught Bruce Wayne the art of ninjutsu (in the comics, not in "Batman Begins")?

8.) In what early issue of "Wolverine" that Wolverine become possessed by the Black Blade of Muramasa?

9.) What is the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

10.) The true identity of the Black Widow is legally Natasha Romanoff. What is her given name?
For question #1, I meant the full, unabridged version of the spell.

My Website. www.soulty.com Online store now OPEN. This model is based of the original comic books. I wanted to make a turtle that looked like he would use his weapons in battle instead of just kicking everyone. In the original comic they all had red material.
